Hi everyone and happy beautiful November. First off, we have a great party going on in Burlington tomorrow. It will be at the Company Shops Coop that will be opening in 2010 in downtown. We’ll be cooking up brats, burgers, Red Oak will be there with beer, and Lizzy Ross and band will be rocking out. Wonderful beer, food and music- how can a fall afternoon get any better! (See our homepage for more details).
The Animals:
Turkeys- we still have some turkeys, so please let us know asap if you’d like to reserve one. If you have reserved one, you will receive a confirmation email later today. If you don’t get one, please let us know and we’ll get you on the list.
Cows- They’re enjoying the weather, eating healthy green fescue and clover after the much needed rain. Breeding will happen again in early December. Our October bulk buying sale was a success. We’ve been able to move a number of cows off of our pastures before the winter. If you are still interested in buying a quarter (70-90lbs) or more, let us know immediately and we’ll keep our sale prices.
Pigs- they’re finally gaining weight again! (Our pigs like to relax in the warm weather) The Ossabaws are moving to their winter pastures and barns for the wet weather that’s finally arrived. This also means that we’ll now be able to make a run to the coast and get some hams cured, hopefully before Thanksgiving. Definitely before Christmas. And yes, we’ll get some bacon too (some of you have a serious addiction to that stuff…)
Veggies- we’ve made it through our inaugural CSA year! It was small, but just big enough to be some serious extra work each week (cause that’s how we roll). But I’d count it a success. And despite the headaches (most self-imposed!), our customers were awesome and supportive, so many thanks. Having said that, we’ll hopefully be bringing greens to markets now, and the strawberries and garlic were planted in a brand new garden last weeks, so look forward to that in the spring.
Reminders:
-Remember that our new website is up and we’re doing a pretty good job of keeping it up-to-date.
- Carrboro’s Wednesday markets are over, and Saturdays are now 9-12. Greensboro is still at some ungodly hour (I come at seven. Rule of thumb, you shouldn’t be buying meat before 7am)
- Yeah, we’re on Facebook, so be our friend. It actually is a good way of keeping people posted for events and happenings in the community.
Lastly, come out to the party in Burlington 5-8. Its 268 East Front Street. The music, food, and beer will be great, and help start the fun in Burlington
