Well Happy New Year from all the Cane Creekers! We are happy to have made it through the bustle of the holidays and are excited about the prospects of the coming months. We are still awash in baby animals. Since our last letter five more litters of pigs, six new lambs and 24 ducklings. Our brooder is full of eggs and we are expecting a scad of turkeys and anyone’s guess how more ducks!
Santa (more like a human who knows what softies we are for drop-off, unwanted animals–hey, don’t get any ideas) brought an unexpected present of two adorable- brother and sister- black kittens. As you can see they are fitting right in.

Thanks to all of you who sent feedback on our Christmas/ News Year’s hams, it seems they were a smashing success. For those of you who missed out we will do it again for Easter and will let you know closer to the date how to reserve your ham.
Speaking of reserving, we might have a couple of quarter cows left, otherwise we will continue for the next three months to work through our inventory of ground beef and steaks at Carborro Market. If you need something special email us and let us know. For you Greensboro folks we are negotiating a new permanent table and spot at that market and will let you know more.
Aside from keeping everyone warm and dry in this odd hot again, cold again winter weather we are readying gardens for late winter plantings and installing new fencing to make more pens to allow us a broader rotation of animals- keeping them and the land happy.
For those of you who are stumped on a Valentine’s gift for your sweetie we suggest you come pick up some tenderloin, steak, chops or such and create a lovely candlelit dinner. Or, if you are not much of a cook or don’t have time, you could always get a Cane Creek gift certificate- nothing says “love” like some humanely raised pork, beef, chicken, duck or lamb.
So again we all wish you a happy, healthy, prosperous new year.
