What a great evening. It was wonderful to see all of you out there last
Saturday in Saxapahaw. The
Big Fat Gap band played a lively and entertaining set. We chatted with friends, snacked on our delicious little golden bite-sized tomatoes, enjoyed a little goat cheese and local wine we purchased from other market vendors. Oh, and we sold the delectable bounty of our gardens.

The dog days seem especially sweaty this year, but the good news is that the animals are handling it better than any of us. (In case you're thinking that these newsletters are always about weather, know this- farmers yap/complain about only three things- weather, price of feed, and the government. We're just doing our best to fit in!) As frequent visitors to markets have realized, our beef supply has been trickling along for the past few months. But we're now into loads of fresh beef a So get the grills going, the beef is just wonderful right now. The pigs too are plentiful, so any barbecue cravings can be easily remedied.

This house has been untouched literally for decades. In years past, it was the home of Ross Marley a.k.a. “Old Ross”. Last [...]

It was an unseasonably hot evening here in Saxapahaw. The gardens are coming along. At the market today we had onions, potatoes, plums from our neighbor's tree, and the first crop of tomatoes are just ripening. Also, you can stop by our table to pick up a copy of the latest CD from Lizzy Ross.

On the last newsletter I asked you all to dance a little rain dance, and it must of worked. Cane Creek has been drenched by a string of rainstorms. Our gardens are sloppy but our pastures are green, and that’s a trade we’ll take any day.
We’re nearing the end of our bird hatching and acquisition. [...]

The 2010 Haw River Festival here in Saxapahaw started the Saturdays in Sax season off with a bang. We even sold some of our grass fed meat to Bob Garner of UNC-TV's North Carolina Weekend.
