Farm Newsletter: July 2010

The dog days seem especially sweaty this year, but the good news is that the animals are handling it better than any of us. (In case you're thinking that these newsletters are always about weather, know this- farmers yap/complain about only three things- weather, price of feed, and the government. We're just doing our best to fit in!) As frequent visitors to markets have realized, our beef supply has been trickling along for the past few months. But we're now into loads of fresh beef a So get the grills going, the beef is just wonderful right now. The pigs too are plentiful, so any barbecue cravings can be easily remedied.

Farm Newsletter: June 2010

On the last newsletter I asked you all to dance a little rain dance, and it must of worked. Cane Creek has been drenched by a string of rainstorms. Our gardens are sloppy but our pastures are green, and that’s a trade we’ll take any day.
We’re nearing the end of our bird hatching and acquisition. [...]

Farm Newsletter: April 2010

uuu wee, it’s hot and lovely. Alright, farm update in 100 words:
The farm’s green. The cows are doing their best to keep the pastures mowed. The big chickens are hitting their egg-laying stride, the adolescent birds are growing like weeds, and baby chicks hatched this morning (Adorable!). The sheep and goats are tagging along with [...]

Farm Newsletter: March 2010

I’ll blame the shortness of February for not getting a newsletter out. But we’re back on it with March. There were also some concerns about our state of mind on January’s newsletter. We were sober, but it does seem this long cold winter is making us a bit cookoo. We’re happily awaiting warmer times, and [...]

Farm Newsletter: January 2010

Happy New Year!
Hope everyone had a great holiday season. Things were especially busy around Cane Creek this season, not just for us people, but for the animals as well. Few know this, but the animals get pretty excited for their holiday festivities. For example- after being born in the past few weeks, the baby lambs [...]

Farm Newsletter: December 2009

So we’re a bit late on December’s newsletter. We don’t deal with “months” around here as much as with “holidays,” and we’re finally recovered from thanksgiving and ready to do it all over again with Christmas!
Thanks first off to everyone who got a turkey from us this year. I hope everyone found their bird to [...]

Happy flannel season to all (that’s fall or autumn to some of you).

The cool mornings, clear days, and fresh breezes have to make this the best time of the year on our farm. Remember to visit the farm store sometime this fall.
Thanks, first off, to all that joined us for our Arabian Nights party. We’ve [...]

Oh, those few days of autumn were wonderful…
We’re rounding out the summer here- planting our fall gardens and wrapping up the last of tomatoes (thank god) and melons. And most importantly, we finally got a bit of rain and the pastures have come back to life.
Party: So here’s the big deal. We’re having our Arabian [...]
